New Workshop!
Meditation For Beginners

Led by Kimberley Puryear E-RYT

Saturday, July 25th

2:00pm - 4:00pm
$25.00

Kim Med WS

Stressed out? Need peace?

Have you ever thought about trying meditation but didn't know how or where to start? Have you ever wondered, what is meditation?  Why meditate? How long should I do it?

Meditation opens up a whole new world of understanding about how to live a more content life. Meditation leads us not only to inner peace and stillness but it also helps us to reduce stress and transform our day-to-day life into a better, more meaningful and fulfilling existence.

Insight meditation is the practice of seeing things as they really are. This workshop provides an overview of the Insight meditation practice, and combines several guided meditation sessions - which will help you learn how to establish and sustain a daily meditation practice - with restorative Yoga postures to prepare the body for seated meditation.

This workshop is open to anyone so please dress comfortably and bring your open mind and heart!

Pre-Registration is required.

Coming in July!

Two Children's Yoga Workshop Series
Led by Pamela Meriwether, RYT

Series 1: July 6-10
2:00pm - 3:00pm (Monday-Friday)
$50 (only $10/class!)

Series 2: July 27-31
1:15pm - 2:15pm (Monday-Friday)
$50 (only $10/class!)

11 11

This fun workshop is for children ages 6 to 10 and is designed to teach some of the classical yoga poses, as well as an understanding of the fundamental benefits of yoga practice.

Children learn yoga through interactive games and stories that encourage growth in body/mind-awareness, self-esteem, strength and coordination.

On the first day of the workshop, there will be a short form for each parent to sign, so you may want to arrive a few minutes early. Please remember that for the cohesiveness of the class it is important that the children are dropped off on time.  Additionally, please be respectful to the other
students by not taking your child out of class early or picking them up late. Each class will last exactly one hour, and the studio will close at the end of each class. Your punctuality is greatly appreciated.

All mats and props will be provided.  Please have your children wear comfortable clothes that are easy to move in, and come ready to have fun!

Pamela Meriwether has been teaching yoga to children in schools and the yoga studio since 2005. She has a passion for guiding children to discover the inner qualities that make each of them an amazing gift to the world, and then helping them learn how to share those qualities with all other living beings. She develops a noncompetitive, creative atmosphere that is designed to increase the children's awareness and appreciation of their wonderful physical bodies.

Pre-Registration is required. Space for both workshops is limited so sign up quickly!

August Workshop

Opening Portals of Consciousness:
A Trip Through the Chakra System

Facilitated by
Katherine Caldwell Bauer, RYT

August 22nd 2009
1:00pm - 4:00pm

$35.00

All levels are welcome!

Katherine C

Join our dear friend Katherine Caldwell Bauer in an afternoon workshop exploring the chakra system through discussion and yogic practices of asana, pranayama and guided meditation.

This workshop is open to all - beginners are welcome to attend!

Yogic teachings help us understand that our energetic body is equally as ordered and complex as our physical body. Spinning through this energetic system are our seven chakras, each with a specific intelligence to share.  How do we get in touch with these energetic "wheels" that help guide us? Have you ever had a "gut feeling" or a "lump in your throat" or a feeling of "open heartedness"? These are just some of the clues our chakras impart to assist us. We can learn to become more aware of our own chakras as well as find practices that support them and access their wisdom.

A guest teacher from Asheville, NC, Katherine discovered yoga in 1990 and received her teaching certification from the Asheville Yoga Center in 2004. She is completing advanced studies toward her 500 hour certification and lives and teaches yoga in Asheville.

Pre-registration is required. Please click on "Workshops/Events" at the top of this page to pre-register or for more information.

About Amsa Yoga

Amsa Yoga is dedicated to offering all styles and levels of Hatha Yoga. It is our mission to compassionately guide students toward enhanced well being. We have classes for total beginners through advanced students in a soothing, light-hearted and non-competitive environment.

Hatha Yoga is the balance of body, mind and breath. This system combines poses with the breath to bring stillness to the mind, strength and health to the body and an overall sense of being centered.

All bodies regardless of strength or handicap can do Yoga and reap the benefits: better posture, more overall comfort in the body, more flexibility, more strength, better breathing, better concentration, less stress, and a deeper sense of peace.

At Amsa Yoga, we are committed to cultivating a diverse and supportive Yoga community. We firmly believe that all Yoga is good Yoga! Our favorite analogy comes from David Swenson in his book Ashtanga Yoga, who says, "The world of Yoga, with its myriad styles and approaches, may be likened to a forest filled with a variety and color. Every tree in the forest has the same goal: to reach toward the light. One tree's method is not better than another's. Each species has individual characteristics which enable it to grow to its greatest potential. The various Yogic systems are unique, yet all have the same purpose: to grow toward enlightenment."

Our instructors teach with compassion and acceptance and are here to support your growth and well-being in a nurturing environment. Yoga teaches us to live from our center; a place of love, peace, and stillness within.  Come find your center at Amsa...

At Amsa Yoga our approach to Yoga is non-dogmatic and eclectic. We offer a variety of Hatha Yoga classes that draw from ancient yogic traditions including Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Iyengar, Viniyoga, Yin and Kripalu all designed to help you cultivate inner awareness and deeper sense of health and well-being in a non-competitive and nurturing environment.

Our Pilates classes are based on traditional classical Pilates training by Joseph H. Pilates.
